All services are free of charge to Upward Bound Programs participants.
During the academic year, services typically include, but may not be limited to
Weekly Tutoring: Available Monday through Thursday from 3-6 p.m. Area college students, including Creighton University and UNO, work with students to bridge deficits and develop mastery in various subject areas.
Saturday Morning Classes: First and third Saturday of each month, 9 a.m.- 12 p.m. These sessions can include educational field trips or traditional classroom instruction by teachers from Omaha Public Schools, District 66 School District, and community professionals and artists.
Academic Advising: Participants are assigned a coordinator who visits with students to monitor academic progress and assist in the removal of barriers to academic success.
College Preparation: Services include college tours, ACT/SAT test preparation workshops, scholarship searches, and assistance completing college admissions and financial aid applications.
Cultural/Social Activities: Students participate in activities designed to spark curiosity and increase their exposure to new ideas and experiences.
Community Service: Students engage in service activities to give back to community, increase job readiness skills and marketability to college and scholarship applications, and identify local mentors in career fields of interest.
Six-week Residential Academy: Students are exposed to college life by living on Creighton Universitys campus. Summer participants enroll in core courses: math, science, English, and foreign language, as well as a variety of electives, designed to give students a head start for the fall semester while stimulating curiosity and excitement about learning. Classes are taught by Omaha Public Schools teachers, District 66 teachers, college and university professors, and community partners.
Bridge Program: Eligible graduates take courses for college credit under the supervision and support of the Upward Bound program.
End of Summer Trip: Students who successfully complete the summer academy are invited to participate in a learning trip. Previous destinations include Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Denver, Orlando, Minneapolis, New Orleans, and New Mexico.
