On behalf of Creighton University Department of Psychiatry, I welcome your interest in our training program. The Creighton Psychiatry Residency has an illustrious history dating back to the 1970’s and has been home to several excellent psychiatrists in practice here in Omaha and nationwide.
Our program offers comprehensive exposure and training in different levels of psychiatric care across all ages, due to our partnership with CHI. Our goal is to cultivate your interest and further your path in Psychiatry in any direction you choose including clinical practice, academic work, research and subspecialty training.
Our graduates are taught evidence-based medicine with preceptors who are dedicated and invested in teaching. We focus on compassionate, culturally sensitive, patient-centered care. We take a biopsychosocial development approach to assessments. In the classroom, during protected time, we foster interactive, case-based discussions that are meant to be intellectually stimulating and further your learning.
During the second year of training, residents gain exposure to child and adolescent psychiatry. There are opportunities to work side by side with our child and adolescent fellows who are in training. After the third year of training, many interested residents choose to follow the fast track into our child and adolescent fellowship program.
Quality and Safety is an important aspect of your training with us, and you will have the opportunity to participate in a quality improvement project annually. Our graduates, therefore, gain a rich clinical experience and learn a balanced approach using both pharmacology and psychotherapy to best serve the needs of our patients. The collegial camaraderie and compassionate teamwork amongst the residents are the highlights of our program!
We are lucky to have great administrative support. Our coordinators are kind and personable, and they will take good care of you! Omaha is a family friendly city with an increasing diverse population and a warm Mid-West feel.
I invite you to consider our program for your training and welcome any questions you may have. Please write to me at jyotsnaranga@creighton.edu.
