Dr. Richard J. Bellucci Research Awards

The Dr. Richard J. Bellucci Translational Hearing Center is pleased to accept proposals for the annual Bellucci Research Awards. These awards provide pilot funding for research that advances our understanding of the causes of hearing loss or identifies potential ototherapeutics that preserve or restore hearing.

Eligibility: All pre and postdoctoral trainees in Creighton BMS laboratories whose mentors are affiliated with the Translational Hearing Center.

Selected Internal Funding and Research Opportunities for Faculty and Trainees

Research Project Leader Awards, Biomedical Sciences ($200k/year) 

  • Research Project Leaders (those without prior R01 funding) can be funded for up to 3 years with satisfactory progress. Meritorious proposals will fit the Center’s theme, i.e., mechanistically elucidate an etiology underlying hearing loss, or identify/validate candidate compounds that preserve or restore hearing.

Pilot Project Awards, Biomedical Sciences ($50k/year, competitively renewable once)

  • Support junior faculty investigators to acquire compelling pilot data that allow them to successfully compete for an upcoming CoBRE-funded Replacement Research Project Leader slot or external federal funding (e.g., R-series or K-series from NIH). Meritorious proposals will fit the Center’s theme, i.e., mechanistically elucidate an etiology underlying hearing loss, or identify/validate candidate compounds that preserve or restore hearing.

Translational Hearing Center Research Voucher, Biomedical Sciences ($5000 each six months)

  • Research vouchers are awarded in $1,000 increments up to $5,000 max. Research vouchers must be used to access BTHC Research Core services to gather data.  Preference given to those seeking Pilot or Research Project Leader Awards, and must fit the Center’s theme, i.e., mechanistically elucidate an etiology underlying hearing loss, or identify/validate candidate compounds that preserve or restore hearing.

Health Science Strategic Investment Fund Faculty Development Grants, Creighton University ($50,000 over two years)

  • Health Science Strategic Investment Fund Faculty Development Grants are seed grants for faculty members developing new biomedical research projects. Grants are for $50,000 over a two-year project period.

Dr. George F. Haddix President's Faculty Research Fund, Creighton University (1 year)

  • The Dr. George F. Haddix President's Faculty Research Fund supports and enhances the research and scholarly productivity of full-time faculty at Creighton University. Faculty are encouraged to involve students in their research programs and scholarly endeavors.  Special consideration will be given to new investigators to collect preliminary data to submit an external grant proposal. In addition, established faculty are encouraged to submit proposals for new initiatives/directions with the intent to build on their work and/or seek external funding. Faculty focused on the scholarship of teaching & learning (are eligible for up to $5,000), as well new faculty investigator/new direction and/or a new interdisciplinary team, interdisciplinary team focused projects (eligible for up to $25,000), are encouraged to apply.

LB692 New Initiatives Grant, Creighton University ($75,000 over one year)

  • LB692 New Initiative Grants are seed grants to develop new avenues of investigation in biomedical research. The goal of this funding mechanism is to enhance the ability of faculty to develop sufficient preliminary data for successful NIH grant applications.

  • Multiple research funding opportunities for full time bioscience faculty at Creighton and other area universities.

MAGIS! Investigato Research Award (MIRA), Creighton University ($5,000 over 1 year)

  • The Magis! Investigatio Research Award (MIRA) supports and enhances the research and scholarly work of full-time faculty with undergraduate research students (who receive an hourly stipend) at Creighton University.

Center for Undergraduate Research and Scholarship (CURAS) Summer Undergraduate Research and Creative Fellowships (SURF), Creighton University  ($6,000 over 1 summer)

  • Numerous summer research opportunities for undergraduate students (including stipend, currently $4,000) in many academic disciplines.

Bellucci Postdoctoral Fellowship, Translational Auditory & Vestibular Sciences

  • Fellowship that provides an enhanced level of support for a Biomedical Sciences postdoctoral scholar in hearing and vestibular sciences for 2-3 years (total ~$100,000 per year).

Bellucci Graduate Scholarship, Translational Auditory & Vestibular Sciences

  • Scholarship that provides an enhanced level of support for a Biomedical Sciences graduate student in hearing and vestibular sciences for 3-4 years (total ~$38,000 per year.

Bellucci Postdoctoral Research Award, Translational Auditory & Vestibular Sciences ($30,000 over 1 year)

  • $30,000 award to support exceptional hearing science research by a Biomedical Sciences postdoctoral fellow. Eligible for one competitive renewal.

Bellucci Graduate Research Award, Translational Auditory & Vestibular Sciences ($10,000 over 1 year)

  • $10,000 award to support exceptional hearing science research by a Biomedical Sciences graduate student. Eligible for one competitive renewal.

Health Sciences Multicultural and Community Affairs (HS-MACA) Summer Research Institute, Biomedical Sciences

  • Program where high school and Creighton undergraduate students who interested in health sciences careers are paired with Creighton faculty to conduct community-based research.  Awardee receives a stipend.

Haddix Corridor STEM, Creighton University

  • Program where high-achieving high school students work with Creighton STEM faculty research labs to explore careers and education in STEMM fields. Awardee receives a stipend.

Dr. Richard J. Bellucci Undergraduate Research Award, Translational Auditory & Vestibular Sciences
