This is a process implemented by your insurance company to both ensure compliance with the Preferred Drug List (PDL) and keep costs down for the University and its employees. If your insurance plan requires prior authorization for one of your prescribed medications, the pharmacist will contact your prescriber—who will then discuss the drug’s intended use and coverage with your insurance company. If a prior authorization is denied, the insurance company will not cover any of the medication’s cost.

Medication Therapy Management (MTM)

Medication Therapy Management (MTM) optimizes therapeutic outcomes for individual patients. The Center’s MTM program is dedicated to providing annual comprehensive medication reviews (CMRs) for Medicare beneficiaries.

A CMR is a one-on-one discussion with a patient in which the pharmacist reviews all of a patient’s medications including prescription and nonprescription medications, herbal products and dietary supplements. During a CMR, drug therapy issues such as drug interactions, nonadherence and gaps in patient care are identified and addressed with the patient. The discussion also provides a unique opportunity for patients to ask questions or address concerns about their medications. At the conclusion of the CMR, a personal medication list (PML) and medication action plan (MAP), is generated for the patient.
