Activities & Service

Make a difference through activities and service.

At Creighton’s College of Nursing, being active isn’t about being busy. It’s about living a life that matters, that makes a difference and contributes to the greater good.

Service

Service-learning and community service is an integral part of your education at Creighton. By giving of your heart and hands, you help others and you also gain incredible experience and memories that will stay with you for a lifetime.

Here are just a few ways you can get involved in activities and service:

  • Healthy Living Project—provide health promotion and prevention services to children who attend Omaha-area parochial schools, located where most households fall at or below poverty.
  • American Cancer Society Relay for Life—join a team of nursing students and fight to end cancer during this overnight fundraising walk held annually at Creighton.
  • Schlegel Center for Service and Justice—learn more about opportunities available through Creighton’s Center for Service and Justice.

Student Organizations

Creighton’s Student Activities Office oversees more than 200 student organizations—all of which provide you with opportunities to give of yourself to the world around you. The following are specifically for College of Nursing students:

  • Creighton University Student Nurse Association (CUSNA)—As a member of the Creighton University Student Nurse Association, you’ll serve as a leader in the College of Nursing community and beyond. The CUSNA is a chapter of a national student nurse organization, enabling members to have a voice for nursing students across the state as well as nationwide.
  • Sigma Theta Tau | Iota Tau Chapter—This organization’s mission is to advance world health and celebrate nursing excellence in scholarship, leadership and service. Membership is by invitation only to undergraduate and graduate nursing students who demonstrate excellence in scholarship and to nurse leaders exhibiting exceptional achievements in nursing.
  • Nursing Senate—The senate is comprised of representatives from all of the nursing programs serving as one voice for the nursing student body. It strives to strengthen the College of Nursing community by coordinating and embracing issues and activities while channeling communication between the College, faculty and students.
  • Leadership Scholars—This program’s vision is: “Shaping the future of nursing with leadership at the point of service.” That illustrates the importance of leadership development in the nursing profession and to our patients. Membership in this four-year program is by invitation only. Themes include:
    • Involvement in groups with leadership opportunities and service
    • Mentoring
    • Relationship development
    • Self-reflection
  • Hastings Association of Nursing Students (HANdS)—HANdS represents and speaks as one voice for the nursing student body. The organization coordinates activities and embraces issues to serve as a channel of communication between College of Nursing faculty and students on the Central Nebraska Campus.
As I consider how I would like to advance both my career and my education, I feel quite fortunate for the strong foundation Creighton University College of Nursing has laid for me.
