Welcome to the Southwest! The Creighton University School of Medicine – Phoenix (CUSOM-PHX) Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency Program with Rearfoot/Reconstructive Ankle (PMSR/RRA) functions primarily at Valleywise Health Medical Center, a 325-bed, county-owned acute care hospital.

Our three-year residency program is approved by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME). Currently, our program recruits for two positions each year.

Our Philosophy

Our organization’s primary duty is to develop board certified podiatric physicians with the skills to become leaders in podiatric medicine and surgery. We are a small and close-knit, supportive residency that ensures each resident excels in the pursuit of personal and professional goals, while fostering a culture of academice excellence and service to the community.

Our Mission

To improve the human condition by providing our students, residents and faculty with foundational knowledge, skills and mindset to be service-oriented podiatric physicians and surgeons of competence, conscience and compassion.

Our Vision

Our vision is to pursue excellence in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery while emphasizing professionalism, the ethical treatment of patients and maintaining high standards for the quality of service provided. We recognize that practicing medicine and performing surgery is a privilege that requires the continual acquisition of knowledge, training and competency.

Program History

In 2006, our Podiatry Residency Program originally transferred to its currently facility, Valleywise Health Medical Center, from a smaller community hospital in the greater Phoenix area. This transition facilitated a tremendous increase in training and experiences afforded to the residents.

The program has been continuously approved by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME) since arriving to Valleywise Health Medical Center. Our program was originally designed with a General Surgery internship year; however, effective July 2023, the curriculum has been modified to include additional clinical and surgical focus on foot and ankle pathology.
