Justice and Peace Studies

"Educate the whole person of solidarity for the real world." - Peter-Hans Kolvenbach, SJ

This interdisciplinary program uniquely helps students develop and live a strong “faith that does justice” in the Catholic, Jesuit tradition. Animated by Creighton’s Catholic mission and Jesuit identity, the Justice and Peace Studies Program works to “educate the whole person of solidarity for the real world” and equip students to catalyze effective social, political, and economic change. The Justice and Peace Studies Program uses theology and the social sciences to explore the systems, structures, and policies that can advance justice and peace in the world, and helps students discern how to live their vocation as “men and women for and with others.

A new program joins the Bachelor of Arts degree in Justice and Society with the Master's in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution. About half of the graduate courses are taken online and about half on campus. 59 credits required:  31 in JPS, 28 in NCR.

During the senior year, JAS students will complete the requirements for the bachelor's degree but also take two Negotiation and Conflict Resolution courses, NCR 624 Dynamics of Conflict and NCR 631 International Conflict, which will count as the social science electives for the undergraduate major. Two required courses in the major, JPS 565 Catholic Social Teaching and JPS 588 Christian Ethics of War & Peace, will also count as electives in the master's curriculum.
