Our elementary education degree blends theory and practical experience and includes opportunities to serve as a tutor, teacher’s assistant or student teacher in Omaha metropolitan public and private schools.

Program Goals

Feel confident and prepared to enter the classroom—and make a difference in the lives of today’s young people—with an elementary education degree from Creighton.
As an elementary education major, you’ll learn how to:

  • Be an effective elementary teacher in the Jesuit tradition
  • Inspire children to learn through classroom leadership skills
  • Be an ethical thinker and creative problem solver

Curriculum

Along with Creighton’s core requirements, there are 52 credits within the elementary education curriculum.

Accelerated Bachelor’s to Master’s Program

Students with Degrees

For students interested in early childhood education who already have a degree, we offer a Graduate Certificate in Early Childhood Education. (For ages three through eight, which translates to pre-kindergarten through grade three.)

Admissions Requirements

Creighton admissions are based upon:

  • High school GPA
  • ACT or SAT scores*
  • Extracurricular activities
  • Personal statement to demonstrate creative abilities not reflected in your transcripts
  • Recommendation from high school counselor
  • Honors sections and advanced placement courses will enhance a candidate’s application
*For students who are choosing to apply test-optional, ACT/SAT exam scores are not required at the time of application for admission.
