Kari Costello, DBA, assistant vice president of International Admission and Recruitment at DePaul University, has been named vice provost for Global Engagement at Creighton University, effective Sept. 16. Costello brings more than a decade of leadership experience in global operations within higher education to the position.
“I am excited to welcome Dr. Costello to Creighton,” said Mardell Wilson, EdD, University provost. “Providing outstanding support for international students who come to Creighton and opportunities for our students from across the United States to engage in global and intercultural experiences is an important part of a Creighton education. In her current and previous work, Dr. Costello has delivered transformative experiences to students from diverse cultural backgrounds and implemented strategies to enhance cultural vibrancy on campus.”
Costello has been at DePaul for more than 12 years. In her current role, she leads the strategic development and implementation of the university’s international student marketing, recruitment and admission operations. Previously, she led the division of Global Engagement, overseeing Study Abroad, the English Language Academy, International Admission and International Student and Scholar Services.
Before joining DePaul in 2012, Costello served as director of international programs for the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business; executive director of career services for Kaplan Higher Education; and business development consultant for Skills for Chicagoland’s Future.

Costello earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin, a Master of Business Administration in international business from the Thunderbird Global School of Management at Arizona State University and a Doctor of Business Administration from DePaul University’s Kellstadt Graduate School of Business. She served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Poland and spent time working and studying in the Czech Republic, Poland and Russia.
In addition to her administrative roles at DePaul, Costello served as an adjunct professor of business, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in business innovation and creativity, marketing research methods, and managing for effective and ethical organizational behavior.
