The Creighton University School of Medicine Department of Urology is committed to providing a urology residency program designed to prepare residents for a career in either academic medicine or private practice urology. The residency will provide graduates with the ability to provide exemplary compassionate clinical and surgical care to patients while respecting the ethics, rules, and laws which guide modern medicine. This will be done by the Jesuit-guided principles of excellence in education, research, and quality compassionate medical care.
The resident will experience graded and increasing responsibility in patient care and participation as part of the healthcare team in an atmosphere designed to promote ethical, compassionate care of the whole patient and promote a lifetime of continuing education and learning, which is a Jesuit philosophy. They will be taught the basic tenets of how to deal with new information independently and the ability to evaluate and judge the medical literature. The resident will also develop competence in the areas of interpersonal skills, system based practice, communication, and professionalism there by rounding out the training of a future urologist ready to provide superior urological care for people in the Midwest.
