Kathleen M. Sheehan, PhD

Associate Professor

Dr. Kathleen Sheehan is an Associate Professor of Economics and a Scholar in the Institute for Economic Inquiry in the Heider College of Business at Creighton University. She earned a BA in Economics and Mathematics from Capital University and completed her MA and PhD in Economics from West Virginia University.  Dr. Sheehan is also a Senior Fellow at the Fraser Institute. 

Her primary fields of research are Institutional Analysis and Public Economics with an emphasis on the role of economic freedom, property rights, and regulations. She seeks to examine how the market economy and access to the market impact development and human flourishing. Dr. Sheehan has published in many academic outlets including Contemporary Economic Policy and the European Journal of Political Economy. She has been an invited speaker for conferences in Ecuador and multiple central European countries, speaking on the role of property rights and economic freedom for entrepreneurship and economic development.   

At Creighton, Dr. Sheehan teaches Microeconomics, Comparative Economics, and the Economics of Sports. She leads student reading groups on economics and regularly partners with students on undergraduate research. Dr. Sheehan is also the faculty advisor for the Creighton Baseball Analytics Team.
