Jill Fox, PhD, MS, BA, ELL

Instructor and Director of the Intensive English Language Institute

Education

Dr. Fox has been involved in the field of ELL since 2000, when she started a Master’s program in ESL Education in the teachers’ college at the University of Tennessee, after which she worked as an K-12 ELL instructor in/around Knoxville, Tennessee and then as an ELL teacher-trainer for classroom teachers in Inupiat villages across Alaska's Arctic Coast.

In 2004, Jill returned to the Midwest as a middle school ELL teacher in Fremont, Nebraska. She moved to Lincoln in 2006, where she worked as an ELL sub in the public schools, coordinated a family literacy program through a local non-profit literacy association, taught ELL adults for a community college, and then worked as an instructor at UNL's intensive English program.

Dr. Fox has served as the Director of Creighton University’s Intensive English Language Institute (IELI) since October 2014. The IELI helps students from different language backgrounds enhance their academic English skills in preparation for college study. The IELI also coaches other international students and faculty with English language and cross-cultural communication skills, serves as a resource for Creighton faculty who work with large cohorts of international students, and facilitates an online EFL teacher-training course for people working with Jesuit Worldwide Learning in refugee camps around the country. She has been an adjunct professor for Creighton’s Department of Education since August 2019.  Throughout all of this, Dr. Fox has also experienced various languages and cultures in visits to all 7 continents, and 36 countries!

Jill lives on an acreage outside of Lincoln, Nebraska with her partner, their 6-year-old daughter, a dog, cats, and chickens.
