Douglas A. Hardesty
Associate Professor
I am a board-certified neurological surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive surgery for benign and malignant brain tumors, especially tumors of the skull base. At CHI Creighton I am an associate professor of neurological surgery, and I am the neurosurgical director of skull base surgery. I have been named to Castle Connolly Top Doctors and have received accolades for patient care and compassion. My mission is to provide world-class care to patients with complex neurosurgical problems, right here in Omaha.
I grew up in Austin, Texas, and completed my undergraduate education at Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana. I received my medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia in 2011 and my residency in neurological surgery at the prestigious Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona in 2018. In addition, I completed a year-long subspecialty fellowship training in endoscopic skull base surgery at The Ohio State University. Upon completion of my training and prior to my recruitment to CHI Creighton, I served as neurological surgery faculty at The Ohio State University for five years, performing more than 1,800 procedures mostly related to brain tumors and skull base surgery. At Ohio State I also was co-director of the skull base surgery fellowship program, and I am very proud of the exceptional residents and fellows we educated.
My research has been published in numerous scholarly journals, including Neurosurgery, Journal of Neurosurgery, and Operative Neurosurgery, and I have presented more than 60 podium talks, posters and grand rounds presentations. I have given numerous invited presentations on national and international stages. My primary focus is on how surgeons can improve a patient’s quality of life, be it via complication avoidance or the development of new surgical techniques.
When not at work, I enjoy spending time at home with my wife and our two dogs.
