Assistant Professor - Theology

Description

The Department of Theology at Creighton University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor specializing in Ignatian Spirituality and Jesuit Studies, building from training in either Christian Spirituality, Historical Theology, or Systematic Theology. The candidate will be expected to teach three courses each semester. There also are regular possibilities to teach courses in the Department of Theology’s graduate-level Christian Spirituality Program during both the academic year and summer. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will show evidence of strong promise in theological research and academic publication. We seek individuals committed to being outstanding teacher-scholars within a primarily undergraduate-serving college. The position will begin August 2025.

The successful candidate will join an energetic and productive department of Theology with faculty colleagues who specialize in historical theology, systematic theology, biblical studies, and Christian ethics. Our faculty prize engaging students in their development as whole persons both in the classroom and in service opportunities. Various faculty members are active in study abroad courses, research projects with students, the Schlegel Center for Service and Justice, campus ministry, and many vibrant interdisciplinary programs (including African Studies, Cortina, Encuentro Dominicano, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Global Scholars, the Honors Program, the Kripke Center for Religion and Society, Medical Humanities, and Sustainability Studies).

Applicants have the option to be considered to be part of a cluster hire across the College of Arts and Sciences, forming a multidisciplinary initiative focused on the topic of Race and Social Justice as a line of inquiry in the candidate's teaching and/or research. Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Theology (or S.T.D. or Th.D.) is preferred, advanced ABD will be considered
  • Evidence of promise as a scholar and evidence of a strong research agenda are essential
  • Experience of college-level teaching or comparable teaching experience is strongly preferred
  • Ability to foster student learning, development, and decision making in support of their goals, success, wellness, and needs 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop rapport quickly and effectively with a diversity of populations 
  • Empathy and compassion for the experiences of others
