Assistant Professor Spanish and French - Modern Languages and Literature

Creighton University’s Department of Modern Languages and Literatures invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Romance Languages (Spanish and French). This is a full-time, tenure track position beginning in August 2025. Candidates should have experience teaching at the undergraduate level and will teach a 3-3 undergraduate course load based upon experience and departmental needs, including language, Magis CORE (general education), and upper-level courses. A Ph.D. in Romance Languages, Spanish (Hispanic Studies), or French (Francophone Studies) is required. Specialization is open. We are especially interested in candidates who have an interest in community engagement, service learning, and especially teaching languages for special purposes (e.g., business, medical, and translation). Teaching will be divided between Spanish and French. 

The position is part of a cluster hire across the College of Arts and Sciences, forming a multidisciplinary initiative focused on the topic of Race and Social Justice as a line of inquiry in teaching and/or research. Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Romance Languages, Spanish (Hispanic Studies), or French (Francophone Studies), in hand by the beginning of the contract
  • Ability to foster student learning, development, and decision making in support of their goals, success, wellness, and needs 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop rapport quickly and effectively with a diversity of populations 
  • Empathy and compassion for the experiences of others

  • A writing sample of at least 15 pages
  • A one-page statement describing the candidate’s potential contributions to Creighton’s mission (https://www.creighton.edu/about/mission-history)
  • Original academic transcripts from all institutions of higher education attended (photocopies acceptable during initial application process)
  • Three letters of recommendation, at least two of which should speak to the candidate’s teaching ability
