Assistant Professor - History

Description

The Department of History at Creighton University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor specializing in African and African Diaspora history, with preference given to those who have a special interest (in research and/or teaching) in science, medicine, or legal studies.  We seek individuals committed to being outstanding teacher-scholars within a primarily undergraduate-serving college.  The successful candidate will teach a 3-3 course load that includes 1st year courses in Critical Issues in Human Inquiry and 2nd year courses in Global Perspectives in History, both tailored to the expertise of the candidate.  Teaching load may include upper division elective courses, depending on departmental needs.

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in History is required to be in hand by the beginning of the contract
  • Ability to foster student learning, development, and decision making in support of their goals, success, wellness, and needs 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop rapport quickly and effectively with a diversity of populations
  • Empathy and compassion for the experiences of others

If the candidate wishes to participate in the cluster hire, a 500-word statement describing how the applicant’s line of inquiry in research and/or teaching is informed by the theme of race and social justice. 

If a candidate is called for an interview, they will be required to provide: 

  • Original academic transcripts from all institutions of higher education attended (photocopies acceptable during initial application process)
  • A writing sample of at least 15 pages
  • Three letters of recommendation, at least two of which should speak to the candidate’s teaching ability
  • Statement of Teaching Philosophy
