Assistant Professor - Communication Studies

Description

The Department of Communication Studies at Creighton University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor beginning in August 2025. Candidates with a critical approach to communication focusing on race, ethnicity, interpersonal, intercultural, media/new media, and/or health are preferred. We seek individuals committed to being an outstanding teacher-scholar within a primarily undergraduate-serving college. The successful candidate will teach a 3-3 course load that includes lower-division core courses in public speaking and theories of communication, as well as upper division elective courses in their area of expertise, depending on departmental needs.

 

The position, which begins in August 2025, is part of a cluster hire across the College of Arts and Sciences, forming a multidisciplinary initiative focused on the topic of Race and Social Justice as a line of inquiry in teaching and/or research. Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Communication Studies is preferred, advanced ABD will be considered
  • Ability to foster student learning, development, and decision making in support of their goals, success, wellness, and needs
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop rapport quickly and effectively with a diversity of populations
  • Empathy and compassion for the experiences of others
  • Ability to contribute meaningfully to university goals of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
  • Indicators of strong research potential
  • Evidence of a commitment to high quality, college-level teaching
  • Interest in engaging with department, college, university, and discipline as a strong community member

  • Three letters of recommendation, at least two of which should speak to the candidate’s teaching ability
