If you’ve applied to medical school and been denied admission, Creighton University’s Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Pre-Medicine with Health Sciences - Multicultural and Community Affairs (HS-MACA) may be a perfect option for you. This program will help you strengthen your credentials and skills in order to better prepare you for the rigors of medical school.

When you pursue a post-baccalaureate certificate in pre-medicine, you’ll be part of a 13-month experience that combines academic coursework with exam preparation, mentoring and clinical skills training, as well as a pre-matriculation session.

Outcomes

Successful post-baccalaureate students will be prepared to enter into medical school by:

  • Meeting or exceeding minimum standards on the MCAT (Medical College Admission Test)

  • Exhibiting professionalism and interpersonal skills
  • Participating in learning outside the classroom, through volunteerism and clinical or mentoring opportunities

Admissions Requirements

Seats in the Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Medicine program are limited.

An applicant to Creighton University’s Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Medicine program must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or foreign national with a visa permitting permanent residence in the country
  • Possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution within the U.S., that reflects a significant focus on the sciences
  • Have applied to, and been denied entry into, an accredited medical school
  • Not have been previously accepted to an LCME-accredited allopathic medical school
  • Not be currently enrolled in medical school or another health or allied health professions degree-granting program

In addition to tuition and fees for the program, students are responsible for meeting program fees and living expenses. Financial assistance is available through FAFSA, Creighton University Payment Plan and alternative loans.

Tuition & Financial Aid

Applicants to the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Pre-Medicine who wish to be considered for federal student aid will need to file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Due to the costs of the program and limited federal loan funds, many students opt for an alternative loan to help cover the costs of this program. Admitted students will need to provide a copy of the alternative loan approval (or other satisfactory payment arrangement) along with their acceptance letter.

Student National Medical Association

  • SNMA is the nation’s oldest and largest student organization focused on the needs and concerns of medical students of color. SNMA programs serve the health needs of underserved communities and communities of color. In addition, SNMA ensures that medical education and services are culturally sensitive to the needs of diverse populations and to increasing the number of African American, Latino and other students of color entering and completing medical school.
  • Past projects of the group have included the “Wrap it Up” event, in which Omaha teens could obtain testing for gonorrhea and chlamydia. The project aligned with National SNMA protocol for Sexual Awareness.
