Program Goals and Curriculum

The health informatics certificate program is ideal for individuals who want to use data and technology to improve patients' lives and prefer the flexibility of online learning.

To earn this online health informatics certificate, you must complete 12 credit hours:

  • HIF 601 Introduction to Health Informatics
  • HIF 785 Leadership and Business Principles for Health Informatics
  • HIF 710 Systems Analysis and Design
  • One elective from the approved list, including:
    • HIF 655 Machine Learning in Health Informatics
    • HIF 755 Generative AI in Health Informatics
    • MPH 633 Health Economics and Finance
    • MPH 601 Organization and Management of Public Health Services
    • MPH 608 Health Communication and Informatics
    • MSL 626 Failing and Failure in Leadership
    • MPH 605 Epidemiology
    • MPH 707 Introduction to Mixed Methods
    • BIA 742 Predictive Analytics
    • BIA 746 Applications of Optimization Modeling
    • BIA 772 Data Visual Analysis and Visualization

Master’s Options

Credits earned for the certificate in Health Informatics can be applied toward a Master of Science in Health Informatics (36 credit hours).

Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Official transcripts from all educational institutions attended
  • Personal statement that describes your professional goals and how this degree will help you reach them (approx. 500 words)

International students are welcomed into this program so long as they complete it from their country of residence, as F-1 visas will not be issued.

International applicants must:

  • Meet English language proficiency requirements
  • Complete and submit a Certification of Available Finances Form through the Global Engagement Office if admitted
