Community and Belonging

Jesuit values have always stood for respect and care for the whole person.

Inspired by the Catholic and Jesuit tradition, our community believes that every human being is a profound gift of God, deserving of both dignity and opportunity. We thus strive to acknowledge and celebrate community at Creighton—building the welcoming spaces and relationships that are required for every person to thrive.

At Creighton, we’re committed to creating a welcoming space for learning, living and working. Everyone in our community is charged to foster an environment of awareness and compassion for all, regardless of age, culture, faith, ethnicity, immigrant status, race, gender, sexual orientation, language, physical appearance, physical ability or social class.

Organizations, Programs and Initiatives that Support Belonging and Understanding

Creighton has a long-standing tradition of encouraging students, faculty, and staff to engage with issues of identity and community. The Creighton Intercultural Center (CIC), originally established in 1969 as a response to the Civil Rights Movement, continues to support students through advocacy, leadership development, academic resources, events and mentorship. Additional programs and groups include the Bias Education and Support Team, the Creighton Allies Program, the Eileen B. Lieben Center for Women, the Intercultural Student Engagement Council, the Multicultural Enrichment Institute (MEI), and numerous student-led cultural organizations.

Belonging at Work

Creighton University offers a welcoming, supportive environment to a wide community of educators, professionals and support staff. Our employees work collaboratively with students—creating an engaging, supportive and challenging educational environment. And those we employ have opportunities for personal, professional and spiritual growth, too. We encourage and support people of all backgrounds, experiences and talents to apply to work at Creighton.

Affirmative Action

The Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action Policies of Creighton University are designed to comply with federal and state equal opportunity and affirmative action-related laws. The purpose of these policies is to ensure that all qualified individuals under consideration for jobs, promotions, pay raises, training programs, and so on, receive equal consideration, regardless of race, color, national origin, gender, religion, disability, and age. Compliance with these laws also results in employment-related decisions and actions that conform to the University's credo and support its mission. (Excerpt from Affirmative Action Policy.)
