The Global Scholars Program brings the world into your Creighton education through flexible, high-impact experiences that complement your major.

The program combines a spring break immersion, a service-oriented semester abroad and a customizable summer experience. You’ll engage with new cultures, expand your perspective and deepen your academic studies.

As a Global Scholar, you’ll deepen your major studies through real-world global experience, preparing you to lead with cultural understanding and a commitment to service.

Across four global experiences, paired with on-campus seminars, you’ll strengthen skills in:

Your Global Journey

The Creighton Global Scholars program blends dynamic coursework, immersion and hands-on experiences. From day one, students are gaining skills for future careers in international organizations. 

Year 1: Spring break program

Your first year at Creighton includes a curated spring break experience alternating between New York City and Bologna, Italy. 

Year 2: Semester and service abroad

In your sophomore year, you’ll spend your fall semester abroad with a required service component (such as Encuentro Dominicano at the Creighton campus in Santiago, Dominican Republic; Creighton in Italy – Bologna; or Creighton in Ireland – Limerick. 

Year 2 or 3: Summer program, abroad or local

During your sophomore or junior year, you have several program choices:

  • Faculty-Led Program Abroad (FLPA) / Creighton-In Summer Program Abroad,
  • Short-term no-credit immersion with Creighton's Institute for Latin American Concern
  • International internship  
  • Globally focused internship or service locally in U.S.

During spring semesters on campus, you’ll take part in Global Scholars Program seminars, culminating in a senior capstone project.

Eligibility Requirements

Students must qualify to apply by achieving a minimum of a 3.3 weighted high school GPA.

Due to course requirements and sequencing, students participating in accelerated professional programs, including those in law, engineering and the health sciences may not be eligible for the Global Scholars Program and should speak with the Center for Advising Resources and Support (CARS) regarding program suitability and requirements. 

Application Process

  1. Submit your Application for Undergraduate Admission and all required materials by December
  2. Complete the Global Scholars Program application and all supporting materials by the deadline listed in the student portal. Access the program application through the portal.
  3. All eligible applicants are required to complete an interview. Interviews will be conducted on campus during the Distinguished Scholars Interview Day held in late January or early February each year. Applicants are highly encouraged to attend Distinguished Scholars Program Interview Day. For students who are unable to attend, virtual interviews will be offered in mid-January.

Global Scholar Program Costs

The Global Scholar Program is designed to make meaningful global learning accessible and well supported. Costs vary by experience, location and length, and the Global Engagement Office works closely with students to prepare for each step of the program.

Program fee

The Global Scholar Program includes a one-time program fee of $1,000, which supports advising, program coordination and related administrative services throughout your Global Scholar journey.

Year 1: Spring break program

The spring break program cost, billed on the spring semester invoice, is $2,500. 
Personal spending and incidental expenses during the program vary by destination and student preference.

Year 2: Semester and service abroad

Estimated costs for a semester abroad include:

  • Travel to and from the host country: approximately $1,500–$2,500
  • Visa and immigration requirements: approximately $100–$500
  • Room and board: approximately $3,500–$5,500, depending on the program

For programs in Italy and Ireland, students pay room and board directly to Creighton’s partner institutions. For Encuentro Dominicano, room and board are included in a combined program payment during the sophomore year. 

Year 2 or 3: Summer program (abroad or local)

Summer program costs vary based on location and length. Students should plan for an estimated $6,000, which may include tuition, housing, meals and flights. Students pay the full cost of the summer program directly to the program provider.
