Since 1947, at the very first “Week of Welcome for Freshmen,” Creighton has provided orientation and welcome sessions for its newest students. Today, our mission is to help New Jays with their transition into the Creighton community. We empower students and families with the skills, knowledge and resources to be successful at Creighton — academically, socially, spiritually and recreationally.
We aim to make your move to campus as seamless as possible! To help you bring what you need, we've put together a list of recommended items you should bring and items you should leave at home.
Although we encourage you to personalize your room, please make sure to follow all University policies regarding room modifications. General guidelines are listed in the Creighton University Student Handbook.
Please bring only what you plan to keep in your room, as additional on-campus storage is not available.
When you arrive to campus at your selected time, enter University Lot 48 at the 25th and Cuming streets entrance. This map pin will be helpful for navigating there. (If you’re arriving via a taxi or rideshare service, set this location as your destination, too.)
After checking in, you’ll be directed to your residence hall where our student staff and volunteers will help you unload your belongings.
Once your belongings are unloaded and brought up to your room, you will relocate your vehicle(s) to the designated parking areas and return to your hall to continue unpacking. A full list of recommended parking areas is available in the Creighton Guidebook.
To ensure students’ academic success, Creighton requires that all full-time students (undergraduate = 12 credits/semester; graduate = 8 credits/semester) be covered by a comprehensive health insurance plan for the entire academic year.
New and returning students are auto-enrolled in the University-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan. If a student already has a comprehensive insurance plan, they are eligible to waive the University-sponsored coverage after registering for classes.
Nebraska is one of two states where 19 is the age of majority, instead of 18. This medical power of attorney form, to be signed by a parent or guardian and notarized, allows students who are 18 and younger to give consent for their own health care. A notary will be available during Summer Preview.
Those who choose to complete this form should do the following:
Bring your student employment paperwork. If you plan to hold an on-campus job during your time at Creighton, you’ll need to bring a few pieces of documentation when you come to campus. Review the process and required documents to complete these steps at Summer Preview.
Microsoft Teams is the main method of instant message communication your small group leader will use to communicate during your session. Download the app on your phone or desktop or access it through the Creighton Office 365 suite. Your Net ID and Blue password will give you access to this app.
We'll start sending communications to your Creighton email account, so get in the habit of checking that now. You can download Outlook or the Office 365 suite and log in using your Net ID and Blue password.
Download our free app and access event schedules, connect with one another, receive key updates and so much more.
Creighton is dedicated to fostering student learning and helping students discover their talents and abilities. To assist us in supporting you and your transition to Creighton, we require all students to take a short assessment focused on mathematics knowledge and reasoning. The Quantitative Assessment for New Students (QANS) is tailored to understand how we can help students achieve their goals.
Please complete the QANS at least one week prior to your Summer Preview attendance and fall registration time this summer, typically in June. Before starting, be sure to have a calculator, scratch paper and about an hour of time available to you.
Before beginning, please know the following:
Your experience studying a foreign language may qualify you to begin in a higher-level course or test out of the undergraduate language requirement. To see which undergraduate programs require foreign language, please review the requirements.
Then complete a placement or competency exam (dates and deadlines vary).
If you attended orientation at your previous institution, you’re already familiar with the information process, but we know switching schools can still come with questions. That’s why we’ve created an orientation just for transfer students.
If you’re joining Creighton in the spring, you’ll need to attend Winter Orientation in January. Fall transfer students can participate in special transfer sessions during Move-In and Welcome Week, our annual orientation events in August.
Here’s what you can expect at Transfer Orientation:
We’ll post registration information here as it becomes available.
