Physical Therapy Women’s Health Residency
Advance Your Practice in Women's Health
Join a residency that allows you to develop expertise in providing evidence-based care in the practice of women’s health. The Omaha-based program includes clinical experience with 1:1 mentorship and advanced didactic instruction from expert faculty. It also features outstanding curriculum based on the most current Description of Residency Practice (DRP) in women’s health. Upon graduation from this program, you’ll also be eligible to take the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) Women’s Health Specialist Certification Examination.
Women's Health Residency Details
- The 12-month residency begins August 1 and ends July 31
- Program residents are salaried Creighton employees with benefits
- Residents complete 30 hours per week of clinical practice and 12–14 hours of teaching, labs, didactic training and a common curriculum with other PT and OT residency programs
- No additional tuition is required
- Professional licensure in the state of Nebraska is required
Educational Experiences
The program offers many opportunities for residents to expand and share their knowledge. Each resident will:
- Complete 30 hours of clinical practice per week with our clinical partner, Creighton Therapy and Wellness; this includes recurring 1:1 mentoring from clinical faculty
- Attend weekly common curriculum seminars with other PT residents
- Receive advanced didactic instruction in women’s health to prepare for the specialty certification exam
- Engage in additional experiences in specialty clinics, service opportunities and an optional international experience
- Develop quarterly written narratives and case presentations and receive feedback from faculty and peers
- Participate in teaching Doctor of Physical Therapy students in musculoskeletal classes and labs
- Produce a scholarly project by creating a case report/study for publication or presenting a relevant topic at a state, regional or national professional meeting

The Women's Health Residency partners with the Creighton Therapy and Wellness Clinic to provide advanced clinical experiences for residents.
Mission Statement
The mission is to develop graduates who will advance women’s health physical therapy practice through demonstration of excellent clinical reasoning and clinical teaching skills, dedication to patient advocacy and service, and leadership in the profession. Program faculty, mentors, and residents will excel in managing the uncertainty and complexity of clinical practice, utilizing technology to advance patient care, and demonstrating clinical innovation in practice. The program prepares its graduates to become recognized specialists and leaders in women’s health physical therapy practice.

Program Outcomes
At the conclusion of the program, residents should be able to demonstrate the following:
- Accurate performance of all aspects of the patient management model (examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, intervention and outcomes) in a variety of settings related to advanced women’s health practice
- Proficient clinical reasoning skills necessary for advanced clinical practice
- Effective teaching and communication skills related to patients, peers and students
- Knowledge and skills necessary to complete the ABPTS Women’s Health Specialist Certification Examination
Additionally, residents will successfully complete two live patient practical examinations and one written examination. They will also be expected to identify and discuss foundational, behavioral and clinical sciences and critical inquiry principles related to advanced clinical practice.
