Physical Therapy Neurologic Residency
Advance Your Practice in Neurologic PT
Accelerate your path to clinical specialization with the neurologic physical therapy residency program at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. The high-energy, one-year clinical immersion experience is designed to help you quickly progress from a new practitioner to a clinician with the confidence to thrive in a challenging clinical environment. You’ll receive quality mentorship in your clinical and teaching skills, as well as exposure to advanced technologies. Upon graduation, you’ll become eligible to take the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) Neurology Specialist Certification Examination.
Neurologic Residency Details
- The 12-month residency begins August 1 and ends July 31
- Program residents are benefit eligible employees by Creighton University
- Each week, residents complete 28-32 hours of clinical practice and participates in 12-14 hours of teaching, didactic course work and scholarly activities
- No additional tuition is required
- Professional licensure in the state of Nebraska is required
Educational Experiences
The program offers opportunities for residents to expand and share their knowledge. Each resident will:
- Engage in neurologic clinical practice experiences across the continuum of care (ICU, acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient) with 3 hours of 1:1 mentoring per week
- Teach in lecture, laboratory and clinical environments with mentorship by experienced resident faculty
- Receive advanced didactic instruction in neurologic PT through a combination of onsite educational topics, Medbridge and a 10-session webinar series and online journal club with residents nationwide through the Neurologic Physical Therapy Professional E
- Participate in a unique common curriculum with other PT residents and OT fellows
- Develop leadership and advocacy skills through service and community engagement opportunities
- Produce a scholarly project with guidance from a research mentor, which can include submitting a poster/platform presentation to a local, state, regional or national conference or submitting a manuscript to a journal

Our partnership with Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) offers a comprehensive residency experience across the continuum of care.
- CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center - Bergan Mercy: Focused on acute care and trauma-centered care in the intensive care unit
- CHI Health Immanuel Rehabilitation Institute: Focused on outpatient or in-patient rehabilitation

Mission Statement
The program’s mission is to develop graduates who will advance neurologic physical therapy practice through demonstration of excellent clinical reasoning and clinical teaching skills, dedication to patient advocacy and leadership in the profession.
Program faculty, mentors and residents will excel in managing the uncertainty and complexity of clinical practice, utilizing technology to advance patient care and demonstrating clinical innovation in practice.

Program Outcomes
At the conclusion of the program, residents should be able to demonstrate the following:
- Accurate performance of all aspects of the patient management model (examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, intervention and outcomes) in a variety of settings related to advanced neurologic practice
- Proficient clinical reasoning skills necessary for advanced clinical practice
- Effective teaching and communication skills related to patients, peers and students
- Advocacy and leadership skills—at the individual, local, state or national level—to optimally serve those impacted by neurologic health conditions
Additionally, residents can discuss and apply foundational, behavioral and clinical sciences, and critical inquiry principles related to advanced neurologic clinical practice. They will also have the knowledge and skills necessary to complete the ABPTS Neurology Specialist Certification Examination.
