Bankruptcy Clinic
Build experience while facilitating financial stability.
The Bankruptcy Legal Clinic and Seminar is a four-credit-hour course that provides senior-certified students with real-world experience. Under the supervision of a licensed attorney, students will have the opportunity to help clients with significant debt and limited income get a fresh start.

How it works
Each senior-certified student attorney in the clinic will be assigned to cases throughout the semester and represent their clients as lead attorney. They will practice law in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Nebraska, and they will be responsible for all aspects of their assigned cases (with direct attorney supervision). This includes extrapolating necessary information from a client to properly fill out the bankruptcy schedules.
Students also gain experience working with clients through preventative measures, such as debt consolidation.
Coursework will place a heavy emphasis on understanding the bankruptcy code, so that students will have the skills to confidently file a chapter 7 case and understand bankruptcy documents from a creditor’s perspective. Regardless of the field Creighton School of Law students practice after graduation, having a solid grasp of bankruptcy and collection laws will benefit their career.
