Mission Statement
Inspired by Jesuit values, we are dedicated to providing quality and compassionate healthcare to the underserved in the Greater Omaha community. As part of Creighton University, we also work towards forming and educating students to be agents of change.
Statement of Values
Founded in 2004 by Creighton University School of Medicine students, the Magis Clinic is dedicated to:
- Providing the standard of care to men and women of all ages and backgrounds
- Cooperating with other healthcare providers to maintain continuity of care
- Instilling in patients a sense of value for one’s own health
- Fostering in students a lifelong commitment to service
The Magis Clinic and its partners provide free healthcare and referrals to existing community services. It is the first free medical clinic in Omaha open on Saturdays that treats homeless men, women, children and the medically uninsured. Services include basic acute primary care consultations and follow-up, physical exams, mental health care, laboratory services (including basic blood tests), and pharmaceuticals. Magis Clinic volunteers also partner with the Charles Drew Health Center, coordinating their efforts to achieve the mission of the Magis Clinic.
Who We Are
Founded and run by students of the Creighton University School of Medicine since 2004, the Magis Clinic serves the homeless and uninsured of Omaha. The Magis Clinic is staffed by volunteer students, physicians and pharmacists from the Creighton University School of Medicine and the School of Pharmacy.

What are the Magis Clinic hours?
- Acute Care Clinic:
Every Saturday 1:30-5:30 p.m. - Mental Health Clinic:
1st and 3rd Saturday of every month 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. - Women's Clinic:
2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month 6-8 p.m. - Specialty Clinics:
Diabetes, Optometry, and Back-to-School Vaccinations – dates/times vary, see Google calendar
Do you accept drop-in patients?
- Yes! Our acute care Saturday afternoons, as well as our special events, are walk-in only. Saturday psychiatric care clinics require referrals that can be obtained through our acute care clinics or case workers except in emergency situations.
Do I need any documentation to be seen at the clinic?
- No. We do not ask for any specific documentation (including proof of identification, homelessness or immigration status) from any of our patients.
What about payment/insurance?
- All care we provide is free of charge. While we do not require payment or donations from our patients, we do ask that those with adequate insurance refrain from using the clinic.
Do you provide STD testing?
- Yes! We provide sexually transmitted infection testing (including gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV and Hepatitis C) at both our acute care and sexual health clinics. We also provide patients with access to treatment for sexually transmitted infections.
Do you treat children at the Magis Clinic?
- Yes, we can treat children. However, our clinical staff changes from week to week so there will not always be a physician specializing in children’s medical care available.

Clinic Roles
Student Directors: The director team oversees Magis officer teams and coordinates the inner workings of our student-run free clinic. They serve as the administration team facilitating community, campus, and clinic interactions. Through protocol development and supervision of the officer team, they ensure we meet our mission of Cura Personalis and care for the diverse needs of patients.
Magis Officers: The officers rotate managing and overseeing the daily functions of the clinic. Each officer has specific roles and duties that they attend to outside of managing clinic. These range from volunteer recruitment to finances, women's health or psychiatric care, prevention services, community engagement, and more.
Champion Magis Volunteers: This title is awarded to dedicated 3rd and 4th year medical student volunteers who serve 5 or more clinics per semester. They earn the award of “Volunteer with Distinction” for mentoring the medical and physician assistant volunteers and serving as respectable role models of the Magis mission of Cura Personalis, care for the whole person. Their extraordinary compassion, concern for others, respect, and commitment to caring for our patient population are among the qualifications for this honor.
Student Volunteers: The student volunteers work in groups to see patients at clinic. They listen to and care for the patients that present to Magis for a variety of reasons. They come up with a care plan for each patient and work with a supervising physician to provide the best care possible for all patients. We are lucky to have student volunteers from many health profession schools!

Patient Liaison: Our patient liaisons are Magis Officers who work at all clinics to assist patients with all social needs. This includes help with case managers, referrals to other social programs, and so much more. Our patient liaisons work tirelessly to help patients with diverse needs and provide holistic care.
Undergraduate Coordinators: The undergraduate coordinators assist with checking patients into the clinic and gathering information to best serve all patient needs. The coordinators also assist in referrals and follow-up for patients when needed.
Pharmacist Volunteer: The pharmacist on duty allows for the clinic to administer medications on-site when possible. The certified pharmacist at each clinic assists with dosing, administering, and acquiring medications to best serve our patients.
Physician and Resident Volunteers: The physician on duty sees every patient at the clinic and works to deliver compassionate, high-quality care. Resident physicians also donate their time and are a wonderful addition to the care team. We are so thankful for our physician volunteers for their teaching and guidance at each clinic!
