Types of Financial Aid

Understanding Your Aid Options

Creighton University’s Office of Financial Aid administers millions of dollars in student aid each year from federal, state, institutional and private sources. This aid helps students take the next step in their educational goals. Below, you can explore the different types of aid available to help fund your education at Creighton.

Student Employment

Each year, more than 2,500 Creighton students help meet their educational expenses by working through Federal Work Study and university-funded employment. Learn more about this aspect of financial aid.

Applying for Financial Aid

To apply for aid, you’ll need to complete the FAFSA and apply to Creighton. The FAFSA can be filed any time starting in October for the next school year. Creighton's school code is 002542. Once you’ve completed the FAFSA and have been accepted to Creighton, you’ll receive an award notification.

Summer Session Aid

For students wishing to attend summer school and receive financial aid, a FAFSA for the new academic year will need to be on file, and students will need to complete a Summer Aid Application

Please keep the following in mind:

  • You must be enrolled at least half-time over the combined summer sessions to be eligible for student loans. Your loan funds won't be disbursed until you hit the half-time requirement.
  • Pell-eligible students are eligible at less than half-time status.
  • During the summer, only Federal Pell Grant funds (for eligible undergraduate students) and Federal Direct Student Loans are available. No undergraduate University Scholarships are honored during the summer. Scholarship funds received in the summer will reduce fall and spring eligibility.
  • You may need to complete additional loan requirements to borrow during the summer. Those requirements will be communicated once you accept the aid offer.

Important Considerations for School of Law Students

  • Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan funds – will be split into three disbursements for summer, fall and spring.
  • Federal Direct Grad PLUS Loan funds will be split into two disbursements for fall and spring unless enrolling in the N2H program for summer.

FACHEX/Tuition Exchange

Creighton University participates in two undergraduate tuition remission exchange programs for children of eligible full-time faculty, administrators, and staff: the Faculty and Staff Children Exchange Program (FACHEX) and the Tuition Exchange Program (TEP). Both programs are highly competitive, with a limited number of awards offered each year by each participating institution. Below, you'll find the steps for employees at participating universities.

  1. Employees at participating universities must follow the deadline and application procedures set by the FACHEX/Tuition Exchange (TE) Liaison at their home institutions for completing the Tuition Exchange application. Please consult with your home institution’s liaison as you begin this process as your home institution may require additional steps.  At the latest, please complete this by January 1 to be eligible for Creighton FACHEX/TE awards.
  2. After the Liaison at the home institution confirms the parent's eligibility, she/he will certify the student's eligibility to Creighton University.
  3. Beginning August 1, but no later than December 1, the student completes an application to Creighton University. FACHEX/TE is typically only given to incoming first-year students.
  4. The first round of FACHEX/TE awards will be made by February 1. The Creighton University Admissions Office will inform eligible admitted students if they have been offered a FACHEX/TE award. Eligible admitted students who do not receive an award will be placed on a wait list. Students on the wait list will be notified if a FACHEX/TE award becomes available for them. These waitlist offers may occur right up to or on May 1.
  5. Students who accept our FACHEX/TE award will be charged an administrative fee of $1,250 per semester.
  6. The award replaces your existing Creighton scholarships (but can be combined with need-based grants & loans).  The award is renewable for eight consecutive semesters of undergraduate work provided you are enrolled as a full-time student and maintain satisfactory academic progress and good standing as outlined in the student handbook.
