Worship, Prayer and Sacraments on Campus

One with God, One with Others

Creighton offers students ample ways to deepen and develop their faith and spirituality through worship, prayer, formation, ministry and music. While Creighton is a Jesuit, Catholic university, we welcome students of all faiths to find spiritual support and community in the worship services we provide. Learn more about these options below.

Places to Pray on Campus

There are several places on Creighton’s campus where students, faculty and staff can spend time in prayer and reflection, including:

  • St. John’s Church
  • St. Peter Faber, SJ, Chapel in the Harper Center
  • The Interfaith Prayer Room in Graves Hall
  • Prayer rooms in Heider Hall, Kenefick Hall and Swanson Hall
  • Our Lady of Montserrat Chapel in the Jérôme Nadal, SJ, Jesuit Residence
  • St. Ignatius Chapel (Phoenix campus)

Prayer in the Style of Taizé

Held at St. John’s Church, this simple, meditative evening prayer with music is intended for all Christians, calling us to dwell deeply on Christ’s presence around and within us. Mantra songs, prayerful silence and short readings guide the focus of the ecumenical prayer in a candlelit environment. Services are held throughout the academic year.

Catholic Worship and Sacraments

As a worshiping community, we are all called to actively participate in our liturgies through song, prayer, silence and ritual action. Some are called to specific ministries for the liturgies we celebrate as a parish and University community. Students can be involved as:

  • Altar Servers
  • Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
  • Hospitality Ministers
  • Lectors
  • Sacristans
  • Tower Bell Ringers

For more information, visit the St. John’s website.

Music ministers invite the faithful into prayer together through music, both sung and instrumental. If you sing, play an instrument or both, we welcome you in Catholic, Protestant and ecumenical ensembles!

How to Get Involved

Sacraments are the continuing presence of Christ with us, creating and renewing our bonds of unity with God and one another. Sacraments are significant prophetic symbols and events that call us to be God’s living presence in our day-to-day world. At St. John’s Church on campus, we celebrate these sacraments with gratitude, joy and a welcoming spirit. We invite you to join in the celebration of the Eucharist. If you feel called to ordained life, we can connect you to people and resources to explore your vocation. And in times of sickness and struggle, we are here to pray with you for healing through Anointing of the Sick. Additional information related to specific Sacraments is below.

Adults wishing to be baptized, confirmed or received into full communion with the Catholic Church are invited to participate in St. John’s Initiation Ministry program, including OCIA. We also offer baptism preparation for expectant parents at St. John’s. To learn more, call 402.280.2934 or email Sara Schulte-Bukowinski.

Note that a lit candle outside of the Reconciliation Chapel or confessional indicates a priest is present.

  • Monday–Friday | 12:30–1 p.m. | Reconciliation Chapel (left of the altar)
  • Saturday | 4-4:45 p.m. | Reconciliation Chapel (left of the altar)
  • Sunday | 8-9 p.m. | Confessionals (by the side entrances near the altar)
  • By appointment: Contact the Parish office at 402.280.3031

Communal Reconciliation Services are celebrated during the seasons of Advent and Lent. Times and dates of these services will be posted in advance.

Protestant/Christian Worship

Sundays at 8 p.m. (late August through early May)
Harper Center, St. Peter Faber, SJ Chapel

Rejuvenate each week with God and other Bluejays in a meaningful liturgical worship service with communion. Rooted in a more traditional Protestant flow of worship—and influenced by the various backgrounds of Creighton students—these services include reflection, sacred prayer, discussion, inspiring messages and a place where mispronouncing Mahershalalhashbaz during the scripture reading is no big deal.

The fourth Sunday of the month at 7 p.m. (late August through early May)
Harper Center Auditorium

Come fill your cup as we all praise God at this monthly service filled with inspiring worship music. With an approach that highlights the gifts of our evangelical and nondenominational brothers and sisters, this service emphasizes collectively praising God in song. It offers the musicality of band members as they play, the eloquence of students as they share faith-filled stories for the journey, and heart-felt prayer that connects directly to God.
