Melissa Muddell, DNP, RN

Assistant Professor

My name is Dr. Melissa Muddell and I am truly excited to be entering my third year as an Associate Professor at Creighton. As an RN, I made my way up the academic nursing ladder, starting off as a Certified Nursing Assistant, then an LVN, followed by an Associates degreed RN, then a BSN nurse, moving on to receiving my master’s degree in nursing education, followed by my DNP. It has been a long journey over many years before I reached my final goal of DNP. Additionally, my clinical career was just as vast. I had to start off in medical/surgical nursing, then I moved to orthopedics, then Maternal Child, where I have happily been for almost 37 years! I was initially a staff nurse in the newborn nursery, then after a few years I was trained as an L&D nurse then worked on and off in postpartum. Then I eventually became a charge nurse on the OB unit and then while I was working toward my master’s degree the hospital promoted me to clinical educator. After I obtained my master’s degree I worked as both clinical educator in the hospital and adjunct faculty clinical faculty for a university in California, until 2011, where the university offered me a full-time teaching position. I remained with the California university until I came to Creighton in January 2023. I am now teaching Maternal Child Health for the accelerated program in Phoenix, as well as one Population Health course (338), Professional Concepts 2, Policy & Advocacy (421).and the capstone course (489).
I am blessed to be married for 39 years to a wonderful man, have four amazing children, one son-in-law, and two daughters-in-law, and one granddaughter.
