Series #14

2018? The Sun and the Wind.  Patty SG.  Illustrated by Osang Art.  Paperbound.  Bangkok: Series #14:1: Reading Support Foundation.  $1 from Nuchanat Rongroang, ThaiRRShop, May, '18.

This version of SW is told in the poorer fashion; the bet is to see "which of us can make this man take off his coat."  The man is a contemporary traveler with a suitcase and overcoat.  His hat has a strap fitting underneath his chin.  The stated moral is "It is better to be patient and gentle than to be forceful."  The publisher's symbol seems to be two purple heads reading an open red book. There is a page of vocabulary on the inside back cover, with a picture of all six books in the series on the back cover.  The pamphlet is twelve pages long, about 7½" x 6¾".

2018? The Donkey and the Dog.  Patty SG.  Illustrated by Osang Art.  Paperbound.  Bangkok: Series #14:2: Reading Support Foundation.  $1 from Nuchanat Rongroang, ThaiRRShop, May, '18.

This is the story of the donkey who will not help the dog to get some bread from his baskets while the master rests.  When the fox – not a wolf or jackal in this version – comes, the dog refuses to help the donkey.  He gives the same answer he had heard: "Our master will come to help you later."  What happens to the donkey is not stated here.  At mid-pamphlet, there is a lost half sentence out of place: "and his donkey by his side."  The stated moral is "Do for others what you would want them to do for you."  The publisher's symbol seems to be two purple heads reading an open red book. There is a page of vocabulary on the inside back cover, with a picture of all six books in the series on the back cover.  The pamphlet is twelve pages long, about 7½" x 6¾".

2018?  The Dog and the Wolf.  Patty SG.  Illustrated by Osang Art.  Paperbound.  Bangkok: Series #14:3: Reading Support Foundation.  $1 from Nuchanat Rongroang, ThaiRRShop, May, '18.

A dutiful dog keeps the wolves away from the farmer's sheep.  The wolves hatch a plat to lure the dog away from the farm into freedom.  He gives in and is led into a trap where the wolves kill him and have their way with the farmer's sheep.  The stated moral is "Don't believe everything you hear.  Decide for yourself what the right thing to do is."  The publisher's symbol seems to be two purple heads reading an open red book. There is a page of vocabulary on the inside back cover, with a picture of all six books in the series on the back cover.  The pamphlet is twelve pages long, about 7½" x 6¾".

2018? The Fox and the Porcupine.  Patty SG.  Illustrated by Osang Art.  Paperbound.  Bangkok: Series #14:4: Reading Support Foundation.  $1 from Nuchanat Rongroang, ThaiRRShop, May, '18.

This is a rather creative development of an old Aesopic fable.  Here the bored fox goes swimming and is caught between two rocks.  A porcupine offers to get him free but does so by nudging him so hard that it hurts more than the rocks did.  "I appreciate you trying to help me, but you just hurt me more!"  The stated moral is "Be careful that your help doesn't hurt!  Always look for the best way to help someone."  The publisher's symbol seems to be two purple heads reading an open red book. There is a page of vocabulary on the inside back cover, with a picture of all six books in the series on the back cover.  The pamphlet is twelve pages long, about 7½" x 6¾".

2018? The Stubborn Crab.  Patty SG.  Illustrated by Osang Art.  Paperbound.  Bangkok: Series #14:5: Reading Support Foundation.  $1 from Nuchanat Rongroang, ThaiRRShop, May, '18.

This simple story is new to me.  Even though the creatures in the sea live happily together, one crab is bored and wants to go onto land, even though the wise turtle warns him against people.  The crab crawls onto shore and is taken by a boy who puts him in a jar.  He has lost his freedom.  The stated moral is "What you don't have always seems better than what you do have, even if it is actually worse."  The publisher's symbol seems to be two purple heads reading an open red book. There is a page of vocabulary on the inside back cover, with a picture of all six books in the series on the back cover.  The pamphlet is twelve pages long, about 7½" x 6¾".

2018? The Cow and the Goat.  Patty SG.  Illustrated by Osang Art.  Paperbound.  Bangkok: Series #14:6: Reading Support Foundation.  $1 from Nuchanat Rongroang, ThaiRRShop, May, '18.

This is the story of a cow fleeing from a pursuing lion.  She discovers a cave but then learns that a selfish goat inhabits the cave.  Even though there would be room for two, the goat will not allow the cow in.  The cow moves on, not because she fears the goat but because she fears the lion.  "If I did not need to save myself, I would stay and you would see how strong I can be."  The stated moral is "It is better to look out for yourself than to waste time fighting or arguing with others."  The publisher's symbol seems to be two purple heads reading an open red book. There is a page of vocabulary on the inside back cover, with a picture of all six books in the series on the back cover.  The pamphlet is twelve pages long, about 7½" x 6¾".
