Studio Art (BA and BFA)
Creighton’s Bachelor of Arts in studio art—and the career-oriented professional degree Bachelor of Fine Arts in studio art—will provide you with a broad-based understanding of the visual arts. With a studio art major, you’ll gain an understanding of art and creativity in the context of society as a whole, with unique opportunities to combine art with service, in the spirit of our Jesuit education tradition.

Program Goals
The studio art bachelor’s degrees (BA and BFA) prepare students for advanced study in graduate programs in fine arts, as well as employment by arts organizations. Creighton studio art graduates are also successful entrepreneurs in art, graphic design and photography.
As a studio art major, you’ll learn how to:
- Excel at self-expression and creative problem-solving
- Improve manual dexterity and creativity
- Be self-directed and self-motivated
Curriculum
Along with Creighton’s core requirements, there are 36 credits within the studio art BA curriculum and 54 credits within the studio art BFA curriculum.

Studio Art Minor
The minor in studio art provides you with hands-on experience and a basic understanding of the practice of fine art. You’ll explore two-dimensional and three-dimensional worlds through the study of the elements of art: line, shape, value, color, texture, form, space and design.
Admissions Requirements
Creighton admissions are based upon:
- High school GPA
- ACT or SAT scores*
- Extracurricular activities
- Personal statement to demonstrate creative abilities not reflected in your transcripts
- Recommendation from high school counselor
- Honors sections and advanced placement courses will enhance a candidate’s application
*For students who are choosing to apply test-optional, ACT/SAT exam scores are not required at the time of application for admission.

Studio art majors and minors can prepare for a career in the arts by participating in internships. Omaha is home to several nonprofit arts organizations including:
- Joslyn Art Museum
- Nebraska Arts Council
- Kent Bellows Studio and Center for Visual Arts
- Union for Contemporary Art
- Bemis Center for Contemporary Art
Creighton offers credit to students who are accepted for internships at these and other arts organizations.
Many graduates of the Creighton studio art program pursue advanced study in graduate programs in the fine arts, as well as employment by arts organizations.

Recent graduates of the Creighton studio arts program have gained admission to competitive MFA graduate programs at:
- Kent State
- University of Colorado at Boulder
- University of Pennsylvania at Edinboro
Not all students who major or minor in studio arts programs at the undergraduate level seek to launch full-time careers in the field. Students who majored or minored in studio arts who also completed prerequisite courses for professional programs have gained entry to the professional schools of dentistry, medicine and occupational therapy.
Creighton College of Arts and Sciences students may apply for Summer Research Fellowships for specific projects to be funded by the college. Several studio art majors have received these awards within the past five years.
