When you pursue your paramedic education from Creighton University, you will experience innovative and creative paramedic classes from a nationally accredited and recognized leader in EMS education. Creighton’s intensive 11 month program consists of approximately 390 hours of classroom lecture, 120 hours of lab/simulation, and 675 hours of practicum time. The paramedic certificate program is offered on-site on the main campus for certificate students as well as BS-PMC students. In 2023 the Paramedicine Department partnered with the City of Omaha to offer the paramedic certificate program specifically to Omaha Firefighters.
Session topics include, but are not limited to:
first attempt pass rate on the 2023 paramedic national registry exam
program retention rate
of 2023 graduates are employed or are continuing their education
To prepare Paramedics who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession.
Demonstrate competency on the clinical knowledge, technical skills, and behavioral approaches necessary to function effectively as a Paramedicine Clinician.
The Paramedicine Certificate Program is offered on-site on both the main campus and the Department’s satellite campus at the Omaha Fire Department. The main campus site offers two pathways to meet eligibility requirements for testing and certificate procedures as established by the National Registry of EMTs. One pathway is to complete all certification courses as part of the Paramedic Certificate Program. The second pathway is to complete all certification courses as part of the Baccalaureate Program of Study (BS-PMC).
The satellite campus, the result of a contract with the City of Omaha, enrolls firefighters employed through the Omaha Fire Department.
Except for students enrolled in the 4-year traditional program, all courses can be offered for credit or non-credit. Students in the BS-PMC program enroll in all courses for credit.
To apply for the program, you need EMT certification at the state or national level that is active and in good standing. You also need current CPR certification at the healthcare provider/professional rescuer level.
You are required to have a minimum of two references in support of your application. Possible recommenders include an instructor, professional colleague or employer.
You must have a laptop to use throughout the paramedic program. Please view our technology requirements and recommendations for students.
Because of the nature of the field and clinical components of your paramedic training, you are required to complete a comprehensive certified background check. You are responsible for the cost of this investigation, completed by a vendor chosen by Creighton. Instructions will be provided in your post-acceptance welcome package. Please Note: If you have already completed this process within the past 12 months as a Creighton EMT student you do not need to do another background check.
As a paramedic student, you must comply with the immunization requirements for Creighton Health Sciences students. Instructions for submitting immunization information will be provided in your acceptance materials. Learn more.
