Creighton awarded $350k NEH grant to digitize American expedition collection

Spearheaded by two Creighton College of Arts and Sciences faculty members – Simon Appleford, PhD, and Adam Sundberg, PhD, both associate professors of history and digital humanities – the project aims to create a free, publicly accessible digital portal of material from the Maxmilian-Bodmer collection, held by the Joslyn.

History Club

  • The History Club is dedicated to promoting historical awareness throughout the Creighton community and to building a spirit of community among majors and others interested in the past. The club has sponsored activities such as History Jeopardy and movie and pizza nights featuring films and documentaries on the Cuban missile crisis and the Civil War.

Research Methods in History

  • All history majors are required to conduct original historical research. Faculty members in the history department encourage students to develop sustained research projects that build upon final papers in HIS 400 or advanced elective courses. Students may request a faculty mentor to supervise their research in an independent study course and can receive assistance from their academic advisor in applying for grants, participating in conferences or seeking publication opportunities.

Writing for Publication

  • Students interested in developing research into a publishable paper or conference presentation are invited to apply to enroll in HIS 595 Writing for Publication. This intensive graduate-level writing seminar is limited to 10 selected students. Each seminar member is required to present a 20-minute version of the paper at the history department’s annual “Writing for Publication” symposium.

Our graduates have most recently pursued advanced study with the following:

If history, law and hands-on learning pique your interest, Creighton’s Nuremberg to The Hague Program (N2H) is worth exploring. N2H offers Creighton and non-Creighton students the opportunity to spend a summer in Germany, Poland and the Netherlands. Throughout the program, students will take courses at Erlangen University to study international law and how traumatic societal events such as the Holocaust affect history and the law. N2H exposes students to an unparalleled level of historical and legal experiences through a combination of classroom instruction and field trips to actual crime scenes, places of conspiracy and current trials.
